Machine translation. The Portuguese version is the one that counts.
The questions that always arise, with short answers.
The questions that arise most often. If yours is not here, write to us — and it will probably be included.
For the theoretical exam, not necessarily: there is a way to do it in another language. But it is not automatic nor does it work the same way in all languages, and you must arrange the matter in advance, at the school. It is explained on the page about the language of the exam.
Yes. There is no way to get your licence in Portugal without going through a licensed school. What changed in 2026 was the possibility of doing part of the practical training with a family member or friend instead of only with an instructor — but the school remains involved. See the page about learning with a tutor.
It depends on the country you come from. There are countries whose licences can be exchanged for a Portuguese one without exams, and there are others where you need to do everything all over again. The answer is in the pages about European Union licences and non-EU licences.
It depends mainly on you: how often you study, the availability of the school, and when there is an available slot for an exam. See the page about costs and deadlines.
No, and it is important that this is clear. We do not provide official training, we do not issue certificates and we do not book exams. What we provide is study material: the theory exam questions, translated, with explanations, and a guide about the process. You have to enrol in a school anyway.
To try it out, no. On the landing page, you can answer questions without even creating an account, and once you have created an account, you have some full tests for free. After that, access must be purchased — the prices are on the pricing page.
The website and the questions are in nineteen languages. Some translations were reviewed by people, others are automatic and are marked as such. When a question does not yet exist in your language, we show the English version instead of hiding it.
Because it is in English that most people end up taking the exam, and training in one language to be examined in another prepares no one. Your language is always just a tap away, on the View in… button. It is explained in how to use this site.
It works, and this is how most people use it. You don't need to install anything.
Not at the same time. The account only stays open in one place at a time — when you log into one device, the session on the other closes. You can use both, but not simultaneously.
Write to us at the address on the contact page and we will take care of it.
They come from the same bank that driving schools use to prepare students. Those for categories A and B were reviewed by an instructor, one by one, including the explanations.
tiraracarta.pt is not a driving school. We help you study and understand the process, but a driving licence in Portugal is always obtained through a school licensed by the IMT. We do not issue certificates and we do not replace the compulsory training.
